About SandRate
Our Mission
SandRate was founded with a simple yet powerful mission: to help people everywhere make smarter building and landscaping decisions, through approachable guidance and free tools that make working with sand, aggregates, and sand-based materials clearer, more rewarding, and more practical.
We believe that everyone working with sand, from first-time DIYers to seasoned contractors and landscapers, deserves access to accurate tools, comprehensive resources, and trustworthy guidance. Our platform bridges the gap between confusing jargon and confident, well-informed decisions about sand types and properties, how sand behaves in concrete, pavers, and filtration, and durable, responsible ways of working with aggregates.
Through our free collection of tools, we help people make informed decisions about sand volume and bag counts, sand weight, paver base and joint sand, sandbox fill, mix proportions, and pool-filter sand quantities. Every tool is designed with real-world applicability in mind, tested against the day-to-day realities of filling beds, bedding pavers, and mixing mortar, and continuously improved based on user feedback. To go deeper, explore our Sand & Aggregates museum, with galleries on sand types, the minerals behind them, and the many ways sand shapes the built and natural world.
Our Story
SandRate emerged from a need we experienced firsthand. While trying to sort through conflicting advice and scattered references, we noticed a common challenge: the lack of accessible, accurate tools for the everyday decisions that come with ordering sand, bedding pavers, and filling a sandbox or filter.
Working well with sand relies heavily on curiosity and a little know-how, which are invaluable. However, a sound plan also benefits from clear answers about how much sand a project needs, how many bags to buy, how much it will weigh, and how much filter sand a pool requires. We saw an opportunity to combine well-researched knowledge of sand and aggregates with modern tools to help people make confident decisions and waste less material on every job.
Our team began developing tools that we wished existed when we started our own building and landscaping projects. Each calculator and guide was created to solve real problems encountered when planning a paver patio, a sandbox, or a batch of mix. We tested every tool against real-world numbers, refined the logic based on feedback, and ensured that the results reflected current, widely accepted practice.
Today, SandRate serves active users worldwide, from first-time DIYers to lifelong construction and landscaping professionals. Our tools have helped people estimate sand volume, order the right number of bags, convert volume to weight, bed pavers, and build confident, more efficient project habits.
